Abstract

The scattered park of Locride is a proposal that is part of the debate about territorial development and cultural heritage, in particular, referring to the UN 2030 agenda, it falls in the goal 11, target 11.4 “Strengthen commitments to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage”. Locride, in the eastern area of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, is a territory rich in history, characterized by impressive landscapes and by the presence of important historical and archaeological artefacts. Ruins of a flourishing and complex past mark a territorial area that suffers from lacking on infrastructure and organization. Natural resources, archeology and strong narratives about a dormant past that is just waiting to be awakened, are elements for a new intelligent tourism that could find its take-off place in the crystalline sea, which touches Greece on the opposite shore. Some strengths of the area will be highlighted in the text, together with some critical issues, in order to provide a synthetic but overall vision of the territory. As regards the point on external connections, for the complete implementation of the plan, the completion of the variant on the 106 motorway and its connection to the south with the A2 Mediterranean motorway is planned. From an administrative point of view, the park could have a centralized management capable of possessing the general vision of the project, and capable of coordinating integrated inclusive decision-making strategies. This text is part of a research in progress, therefore aims to illustrate certain elements to trigger reflection for the community, and to represent a summary of the data collected to date.

  15. The extreme fragmentation of the urbanized fabric, inserted in the rural territory in a punctual manner, the abundance of scattered cultural heritage, the wealth of interesting and diversified landscapes in a large area, the soil morphology, suggest a model of autonomous and varied fruition. The problem of road connections also involves the inhabitants of the internal villages. However, the contribution that can be provided by a correct organization of the railway is not to be underestimated, which, even if remaining on a single track, could become an interesting method of seaside tourist travel between Reggio Calabria and the coast of tour operators and the “lone tourist”

  19. Regarding the exploitation of these resources from a tourist point of view it would be necessary to open a separate discussion. The immense empty beaches of the Riviera, the nature trails that cross the mountain, the peculiar agri-food aspect of the area, alone would be enough to justify a great interest
