Abstract
Two basic fault diagnosis problems are formulated for linear time-invariant systems with additive faults, and general existence conditions of their solutions are given. Several computational paradigms are discussed, which are instrumental for the development of efficient and numerically reliable synthesis procedures for the design of fault detection filters. An overview of the available computational software tools is presented.
