Abstract

This chapter takes a closer look at the work of Georgette Heyer. Although often referred to as the ‘Queen of Regency Romance’, Georgette Heyer wrote across a range of genres including the psychological thriller, the detective, the historical novel and the romance. This chapter investigates how her work across different genres reflects a continuing and evolving engagement with the gothic mode and challenges the generic labels that are frequently used to delimit her work and discount its engagement with the gothic.
