Abstract

Disc herniation can cause nerve root compression and is one of the most frequent causes of lumbosacral radiculopathy. This chapter illustrates the limitations of bone SPECT imaging alone in identifying relevant disc pathology and shows the complementary findings obtained from the CT part of the study. Nevertheless, in patients with a history and physical examination findings consistent with lumbar disc herniation with radiculopathy, MRI is considered the most appropriate, noninvasive test to confirm the presence of lumbar disc herniation.
