Inquiry and Research Skills for Language Teachers

Abstract

This chapter aims to help pre-service teachers put the pieces of their puzzles together to create a meaningful evidence base that could help them learn as a teacher. It specifically presents two major data analysis processes: quantitative and qualitative analysis. The quantitative data analysis focuses on definition of variables and univariate statistics while the section on qualitative data analysis focuses on thematic analysis. Examples for a better understanding and research tasks to provide practice are included throughout the chapter. The chapter ends by two tasks which prompt teachers to self-check and self-document own research process as an example of self- or group- research engagement.
