Abstract
Pimentel examines notions of colorblind racism—the subtle, everyday production of racial ideologies that go unmarked and thus unchallenged yet that may be more impactful in creating racist inequities than blatant forms of racism. In order to demonstrate how colorblind racism is produced, Pimentel deconstructs the racial messages produced and perpetuated within the popular, heartwarming narrative presented in the motion picture The Blind Side. She situates her analysis in the current political context, which she argues is defined by President Trump, who not only makes openly racist remarks but also evokes colorblind racial ideologies when he dismisses the existence of racism and disparages anyone who attempts to bring attention to such issues.
