Abstract
In this chapter, we explore the radiological imaging of acute stroke with a focus on the identification of ischemia. We begin by reviewing the role of neuroimaging in emergency stroke management, followed by an overview of a pathophysiological model for ischemic stroke to explain why radiological appearances vary. Finally, we use theory and examples to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the two major neuroimaging modalities: computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
