Abstract
Gustav von Schmoller (1838–1917) was a German economist. As the leader of the younger historical school, he was a very influential academic in Imperial Germany. This entry describes Schmoller’s life and career, his particular approach to economics, as well as two important methodological disputes that he participated in.
