Abstract

The first approach to measure the antioxidant activity of a drug, an extract, or other biological sources is the alpha-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging process. This is the standard form in which the potential compound or extract is mixed with a mixture of DPPH and absorption spectrum after a given time is reported. However, the procedure has encountered numerous changes to meet the necessities with the evolution and complexity of instrumental methods, even though the basic methodology remains the same in all of them. This article provides a critical analysis of the DPPH method’s diverse innovations.
